Do cockroaches seem to be everywhere when you walk into your kitchen late at night and turn on the lights? The little critters are all over the counters, floors, and walls, and when the light goes on, they all run to the safety behind the refrigerator, stove, and kitchen cabinets. Although, they might seem like they are everywhere, they all eventually go back to specific areas to hide from day light and us.If you want to get rid of the cockroaches, you are going to have to find the nests and spray them with a cockroach killer. This is something the average homeowner can do on their own. If you have cockroaches in your kitchen, here is how you can find the nests and eradicate it.

Finding the Nest

Cockroaches like tight spaces. Especially spaces around water and electrical equipment. The first place you should look is around the cabinets by the sink. Get a flashlight and open the doors and drawers on the cabinet. Shine the light along the seams of the cabinet and look for little brown spots. the brown spots are the excrement the cockroaches leave behind as the walk out of the nest and into the kitchen area. The spots are also a tell-tale sign that there is a nest nearby.

You also want to look for seams in paneling and along the frames of the doors and windows in the kitchen. Take notice of every place where you see the brown spots so you know where you are going to spray the pesticide.

Pesticide

The best cockroach spray is one that contains pyrethrin. Pyrethrin is a natural product made from the chrysanthemum flower and it is safe to use in the home. You can usually buy the spray at your local supermarket or hardware store. To make certain that your space was treated properly, contact a pest control specialist.

Spraying the Cockroaches

A spray can will come with a little straw you put in the nozzle. Put the straw in the nozzle and go the the spots where you saw the little brown spots. Squirt a little of the pesticide into the crack. If there is a nest in the crack, the cockroaches will start fleeing from the pyrethrin. Spray the cockroaches directly as they leave the cracks. Repeat this procedure at every location you saw the brown spots. You most likely won't be able to kill all the cockroaches at once. So, repeat spraying the kitchen everyday for at least a week. If you live in an apartment building, chances are the cockroaches are in other apartments and they will migrate back into you apartment over time. You should do monthly inspections in the kitchen to make sure another nest or nests of cockroaches don't move in after you've gotten rid of the other ones.
