If you are seeing ants in your home, it can be frustrating. These tiny insects seem to come out of nowhere and because they are so tiny it is not difficult for them to get in. Fortunately, there are many things that you can do to get rid of these pesky insects, two of which are listed below.

Use Ant Baits

One of the best ways to get rid of ants is to use ant baits. One common type that is used is a gel that you squirt onto a small piece of cardboard that comes with the product. The gel attracts ants as they can smell it and it will taste good to them. What they do not know, however, is the gel is poisonous and kills the ants quickly.  

Place the bait where you see most of the ants in your home. Wait a while and you will soon see swarms of ants around the card eating the gel.  Do know that if you have pets or children you need to keep them away as this is a poison. 

You can purchase ant baits at most home improvement stores, as well as some pet stores and online. 

Use Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is a product that you can use to kill ants that is not poisonous to children or pets. When purchasing just make sure you purchase food-grade DE. This product is in a powder form and comes in bags. The powder will seem harmless to you, but it is deadly to ants, as well as other insects you can get in your home, such as fleas.

The powder is made of fossilized algae that are very sharp. When insects walk over the powder, the algae pierce their exoskeleton. The powder then enters where they are pierced and gets inside their body. Once inside, the DE dehydrates the insects and they quickly die. 

Look where the ants are coming inside your home. This will be easy to see as you will see trails of ants in these areas. Spread a thin layer of DE over this area. If you see a large group of ants, spread DE directly over them. Spread the DE along windowsills, baseboards, cracks, and floors where you see any ants. The DE will kill the ants in a couple of days.
