Doors & Windows Get Stuck

One of the signs that you have termites is that a door or window all of a sudden starts to stick when you are trying to open or close it. The reason that the doors and windows get stuck is that the frame gets warped from the termites nibbling on it. Termites like to go after the door and window frames first because they are exposed and it makes it easier for the termites to get into the wood. It is important to note that there are other reasons why your doors and windows are sticking, like humidity, so make sure that you check carefully to see if you see any other signs of termites. 

Frass

Frass is the termite excrement. You can see little piles of it at the base of your walls or in other places termites might be. They push the grass out of their nests and tunnels so that it doesn't get messy inside. Frass looks like little piles of sawdust or can resemble piles of salt and pepper, leaning towards more pepper than salt. The piles generally aren't that big, but it's important to keep an eye out for them. If you have subterranean termites you probably won't see frass, since it's underground, but you will see mud tubes. Subterranean termites use their excrement to make mud tubes, which can help protect them from the environment. 

Discarded Wings

Termites swarm, and while they swarm, they have wings. They don't fly well, and once they find someplace to nest, their wings fall off. All of the swarmers will leave their wings in the same general area. You won't see a nice neat pile, but you will see wings in a fairly small area.
